Deddington village is located in Banbury, Cotswolds Oxfordshire and was an early settlement in the 6th or 7th century.

Deddington castle was commissioned by Bishop Odo of Bayeaux . The
vallum and earthworks of this castle can still be seen today at the castle
grounds.

In the 17th century during the English Civil War after The Battle of
Cropredy which the Royalists just about won, King Charles I stayed at the
Castle House.

Nearby Oxford was first occupied in Saxon times, and was initially known
as "Oxenaforda", meaning "Ford of the Ox”"; fords being very important
before the days of bridges.

Woodstock is close to Deddington and Banbury, and makes a popular
history visit to see Blenheim Palace and Sir Winston Churchill's grave in
nearby Bladon.

Sir John Vanbrugh designed the Blenheim Palace for John Churchill, 1st
Duke of Marlborough. It was largely paid for by the nation in gratitude for
his victory over the French and Bavarians at Blenheim in 1704.
